FLY FISHING LAKE EUCUMBENE

fly fishing on the Eucumbene lake has been up and down in places but with is ho weather and some thunderstorms about things are on the Improve.

Over at rushes the best time are early mornings and late afternoons best flies in the afternoons are Woolly Buggers, Fuzzy Wuzzy’s, bead head Nymphs, Mrs Simpsons, Early mornings Simulators with a Nymphs dropper,Klinkhammers, Royal Wulff

Middling Bank,late afternoons into the dark, Woolly Buggers, Fuzzy’s and Muddlers. Things are starting to pick up around here with the water levels rising.

Seven Gates,again late in the afternoons but stick to the tight small  bays fish around the gully’s , Woolly Buggers, Muddlers, Bead Head Nymphs

Braemer Bay,still fishing ok with most fishers fishing around the bays walking back towards coppermine bay again late in the afternoons, Large Woolly Buggers Black, Brown and Muddlers

Overall for most fly fishers it’s been good and now the mudeye’s are starting to move thing will only get better.

 

RIVERS

All rivers up higher have been going great. Eucumbene river, Murrumbidgee above Tantangara, All stream are worth looking at with plenty of fish and the insect life is just starting.

Over at the Mowambah river all is good with plenty of action everywhere this is a great place to go dry fly fishing all day long.

Most Monaro rivers are fishing well but things are starting to get hard yes needing rain soon but still worth looking at.

 

SMALL DAMS

Rainbow Lake ,Dry Dam, Three Mile Dam, Guthega Dam, Island Bend Dam, Are all fishing well worth looking at.

 

LAKE JINDABYNE LAKE

Again no reports

 

TANTANGARA LAKE

Fishing has been good with plenty of reports from the top end early mornings and late afternoons till around 10pm at night mostly browns taking Woolly Buggers, Muddlers, Mrs Simpsons and bead head nymphs.

 

ROD ALLEN

Good friend, Wyatt Elford and I set off to explore and fish Cave Creek. Our journey from Cooma,meant we crossed the eucumbene river at kiandra,where the flow was moderately higher than last trip,but still at a very fishable flow which made it tuff to drive past! Soon we were on long plains and crossing the bidgee,we found it in a similar condition, slightly tannin stained as the norm for this gem,and again,we both toyed with the idea of fishing it...Finally our destination Cave Creek! Set in some breathtaking gorges,this crystal clear,limestone stream has a great population of wild rainbows for those prepared to hike down below the falls.The fish readily take dry fly or nymphs,and they keep you entertained with ferocious takes and acrobatic fights. Most fish are stream sized with the occasional surprise bigger fish making an appearance regular enough to keep you going,catch and release is critical to these little self supporting rivers,.After we had our fix of stream trout ,we decided to fish lake tantangarra for the last hour of the day in hope of a rise.The lake was alive with insect activity,a smorgasbord of midge,mayfly and caddis which made us scratch our heads a bit to what pattern to tie on,as fish were spasmodically rising in all forms,never the less, Wyatt nailed a beautiful brown weighed at 4lb on the Maclean's weigh net on his clinkhammer, and I got one a touch smaller on my shaving brush.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TROLLING LAKE EUCUMBENE

 

 Well the trolling is still going well with most reports coming from the bottom end of the lake “Rushes, Seven Gates, Middling Bank and around Wainui bay and up.

Over at Middling bank best lures are Tassie devils 55,36,48,26,129,PP

Wainui bay Tassie devil ,121,111,112

Rushes bay Tassie devil ,4,125,FLP,130, Rapala spotted dog, Blades,

Seven gates Tassie devil,450,67,4

Middling bank Tassie devil, Y123,Y94,Y05, Bullet lure Fry and Brooke

 

In the last few days Braemer Bay has really Improved with the tassie devils and Rapala spotted dog Size 5,7,13 

 



 

 

TROLLING LAKE JINDABYNE

Trolling has been picking up around jindy with some good fish on the bite up at Kalkite good reports with browns, Brookies and rainbows.

Rapalas, Blades, Bullet and Tassie’s are all going well.

Over around at hatchery bay and reports have been good on tassie’s and spotted dog rapala’s again like Eucumbene try any tassie you should do well yes lake was dropping but it’s steady now and there’s plenty of water running in so if you are after some good fishing this is the time to get to Jindabyne.

 TROLLING TANTANGARA

Trolling is really good up that way with some good reports coming from the top end, Tassie’s, Rapala’s Spotted Dogs and Bullets are the lures to use.

This is the place i would go at the moment yes its dropping but it’s still going gang busters on all lures.

Both gates are open but you can’t drive around the lake as yet.

 

Overall the fishing is going great.

 

BAIT FISHING

Bait fishing has been the same all winter just amazing fish have been smashing the worms all winter and still going well power bait is doing ok but it’s the worms that are working the best

Most areas are fishing well on both lakes you just need to get out there wind snow or sunshine it’s worth it.
